Bio

Dr. Kelly Anderson is a Professor and the Program Director for the BA in Special Education & Elementary Education K-6 Dual Major in the Department of Special Education & Child Development, UNC Charlotte. Dr. Anderson started her career as a special education teacher of students with mild to moderate disabilities in Des Moines, Iowa before moving to North Carolina in 1990 where she served as a teacher, school administrator, and district assistant to the director of Exceptional Children. Dr. Anderson teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on individualizing instruction for diverse learners, instructional planning, and collaboration and consultation. Dr. Anderson’s research focuses on differentiating instruction, collaboration among general and special education, working with families and agencies, and interdisciplinary teacher preparation. She has secured over $5 million in sustained external (state and national) and internal funding. She serves as the managing editor for The Journal of Special Education (JSE), and on the editorial board for the journal of Teacher Education and Special Education.
